Name: Doub Pearce
Age: 50
Birthplace: Orlando, Fla.

I began playing music at age 6 or 7.

As a kid I loved the Monkees, but was raised on Bach, Aaron Copland, Beethoven, Mozart. Played guitar and cornet until Jr Hi where I found out that I was really a bass player at heart. I also began playing 5 string banjo after hearing the Dirt Band’s “Uncle Charlie..” record ….. John McKuen blew me away!! Clemente on the banjo … as well as Stanley and Scruggs!!! I was hooked for life. It was all about bluegrass for me!! (Though I must admit that I went thru my Zeppelin, GFR phase). Earl, Carl Jackson, Bobby Thompson, Ralph, Sonny, Vic Jordan, Alan Munde, Pat Cloud, Bill s (Emerson, Keith). There were more influences than I can mention. I spent hours gleaning their wonderful playing off of records (before the days of plentiful tabs).

Through high school I played bass in one band, drums in another, 5 string in another. I fell head over heels in love with music of many types. Beatles to Loretta, Chicago to Stanley Brothers. I was also involved in Symphonic band as conductor and Tuba player …… I was playing in Christian coffeehouses from the time I was 15 ….. every weekend. Then on to weddings, conventions, and regular old bar gigs. CSNY, James Taylor, Poco, Carly Simon, Carole King, Boston ....
…. THEN CAME DISCO ….. yeccchhh!!!

I put all of my instruments under the bed and quit FOREVER!!! Or not.

Along came John Travolta in a cowboy hat …. All of a sudden, I was back in business!!!
Anyway, over the course of the next 10 years or so …. I fell in love with fusion .... Metheny, Weather Report, Chick Corea, Steve Morse, along with all of the jazz greats like Dizzy, Bird, and Miles. I moved to LA and worked as a bass player.

Toured or recorded with Gary Puckett (and the Union Gap), Joan Rivers, Jerry Corbitt (Youngbloods), John Schneider (Dukes of Hazzard), and Brush Arbor. I have been lucky to work with truly great musicians, and have learned immensely from each of them.

Somewhere along the way I found out that I needed to fill in some gaps as a musician, and began a real study program that I continue to this day. It is the best Video game EVER!!

Here I am today …. More blessed than ever … married to the most wonderful woman in the world … with the 3 best kids in the world. I am very thankful for each of their individual talents and devotion to what we do together in music. What an honor … that they would be willing to play in a band with grumpy ol’ me. I’ve never been happier as a musician.

I’m still a bass player at heart, but I’m practicing real hard to try to become a mediocre banjo player. (Nope, I'll never be Bela .... heck, ... who am I kidding ... I'll never even be as good as any of the Bela wannabees!). I hope that Molly gets good FAST …. So I can go back to where I belong.

Who is God?: My Creator, My Father, My Lord, My King, My Protector, My Savior.
Who is Jesus?: The Only one who could make an acceptable sacrifice for me. The only good One. He loved (loves) me in spite of the ugly person I am. He is God, and had NO reason to suffer on this planet for me, but He did anyway. He is teaching me humility, forgiveness, mercy, grace, love. He alone is worthy of my adoration, respect, worship, reverence.
What is important to me?: God’s approval ….. Marriage …. Family …. Legacy
Honesty, Integrity, Truth …. Looking at myself in the mirror each morning with no shame.
What are my 3 most important life goals? 1. being a person that my children and grandchildren will speak well of when I’m gone. 2. leaving a legacy that will make people desire to have a life with God at the helm. 3. knowing that I have done what God wants me to in this life.
Where do I see myself in 10 years? Hopefully touring the world with my family’s band ….. spending time with my wife, children, their spouses, and grandchildren.
How I became a Christian: I was a complete atheistic humanist. Raised by liberal atheistic humanists. God brought loving people into my life who introduced me to His son, Jesus. I was a sceptic. But … through reading the Bible and being open to hear Him … He CONVINCED me of  the following truth ;
He is Who He says He is …. In His Word. He has kept every promise to me for over 30 years now. Life has been full of ups and downs, but He has remained unchanged and true through all of it …. And has never forsaken me. For that and for Him, I will be eternally grateful.
